Good news for airport employees at Dublin and Shannon

There was some very positive news for Irish airport employees yesterday as the EU and US decided against a ban on laptops and tablets in cabin baggage on flights from Europe.

While there was mounting speculation that such a ban would come into force at US insistence, that threat has passed under EU pressure. EU officials objected to the US measures on a number of grounds, including passenger convenience and also some risk factors.

A ban on devices is currently in place from flights to the US from the Middle East and Africa.

Irish airports have become an important hub for EU-US flights with pre-clearance facilities located at both Dublin and Shannon airports.

In 2016, almost 28Million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport (source: DAA). This equals almost 6 times the population of the Republic of Ireland. The airport has flights to over 180 destinations in 40 countries. Any ban on devices could have had a major impact at the airport.

Shannon Airport has a long history of connection between Ireland and the US which continues to this day.

St. Joseph's Irish Airports & Aviation Credit Union has a long history serving the needs of workers at Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports. Since its foundation in the early 1960's, St. Joseph's has constantly expanded the services it provides to airport employees, including a modern banking service, mobile and online banking, current accounts, flexible and competitive loan terms for home improvement and education needs.

"Our core focus has been to ensure we deliver a first-class banking service to airport employees" said Ms. Edel Bourke, CEO at St. Joseph's.

Becoming a member of St. Joseph's is free to airport employees and they do not have to close existing credit union accounts elsewhere.
